Sergio Rodrigues, Musician, Piano

Sergio Rodrigues was born in Luxembourg and began studying piano with Daniel Feis at the age of 9. While completing his classical studies, he developed a strong interest in jazz. From 1997 to 2001, he studied jazz piano with George Letellier. In 2008, he moved to Lisbon, where he attended Escola Superior de Musica Lisboa (ESML). There, he studied piano with João Paulo Esteves da Silva, and composition and arranging with Pedro Moreira.


During the past several years, Sergio has worked as a pianist, an organist, a composer and an arranger for a number of different groups and has performed at national and international festivals. He has experimented with  several musical styles and shared stages with such acts as Joe Fonda (USA), Mat Maneri (USA), Herb Geller (USA), Luciano Pagliarini (IT), Remo Cavallini (LU/IT), Jérôme Bourdellon (FR) André Mergenthaler (LU), Bruno Pernadas (PT), Claudia Franco (PT). He was invited to make the opening of the concerts of well-known bands such as ZZ Top, Scott Henderson Trio or  Ralph Towners’ Oregon.


His interest by the combination of music with other art forms leads him to compose and perform music for theatre, cinema, dance, photo exhibitions and poetry. He collaborated, inter alia, with the French stage director Gérard Gélas, the Austrian producer Peter Payer, the Finnish choreographer Anu Sistonen and the Portuguese photographer Paulo Lobo.


Recently, Sergio worked as a musical director, arranger, performer and artistic-producer on Selma Hadrovic Schauls' (BA/LU)  new album "Just Be with Selma"; as an arranger  for the blues rock band, Vecchi e Brutti (FR) and  jazz-singer  Claudia Franco (PT). He performs regularly as a pianist and organist with various projects like Bruno Pernadas, The Trick, Poesia e Jazz, Luar da Namorosa, Lata Gouveia and Remo Cavallini Band.
